Ionic Liquid Driven Enhancement in the Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Effectiveness of Poly(methyl‐methacrylate)‐Based Composite Materials Filled with Hybrid Silver‐Coated Glass Microfibers

The electromagnetic interface shielding properties of poly(methyl-methacrylate) based composite materials filled with hybrid silver-coated glass microfibers are investigated between 100 kHz and 1 GHz using the coaxial cell method. incorporation ionic liquid EMPy-TFSI (1-ethyl-4-methylpyridinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)) into material leads to a substantial decrease in percolation threshold an enhancement interference effectiveness by more than 60 dB. addition EMPy-TFSI, selected for its excellent compatibility polymer matrix, allows one obtain values up 116 dB, as compared maximum value 43 dB obtained absence liquid. This effect is explained interactions liquid, matrix that lead efficient network. use liquids can represent thus powerful approach develop functional enhanced properties.

This study indicated that multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-epoxy composites can be used as effective lightweight shielding materials. The measurement results showed that highest EMI SE of 23.4 dB at 8 GHz was obtained for nanocomposite with 1 wt% MWCNTs. Dielectric properties and electrical conductivity values were supplemented by microscopic studies.
